Even though San Francisco and Palo Alto are big tech hubs, they are not the only places where big tech companies have their headquarters.

Some tech companies, in fact, are in places that aren’t as well known and have smaller populations. Business Insider looked through the Fortune 500 list recently to find companies like this.

When making our list, we didn’t include any tech companies based in the biggest cities in the US. Using information from City Data, we then put each company’s location in order by the number of people living there.

As it turns out, there are a lot of tech companies that aren’t based in the biggest US cities. As of 2014, all of the companies on this list are based in places with less than 50,000 people.

Here are seven tech companies based in small towns in the United States:

Amphenol

Amphenol is a company that has been around since 1932. It makes electronics and fiber optics. It ranks 424 on the Fortune 500 list and has 62,000 employees.

Computer Sciences Corporation is an IT company that has been in business since 1959. The company has 59,000 employees, which puts it at number 379 on the Fortune 500 list.

Netflix is a company that started making movies and TV shows in 1997. Netflix has 3,850 employees and is number 314 on the list of the Fortune 500.
