Today, Tesla said that the Gigafactory in Berlin can now make 2,000 electric cars a week. This is the first time that this has been possible.
If this new rate of production can be kept up, it will be a huge win for the automaker.
Every automaker in the world is currently dealing with a very hard supply chain crisis in order to speed up the production of electric vehicles and stay in business as the industry quickly moves toward electric vehicles.
Tesla has been a leader in this field for ten years, and it is not slowing down. It is currently ramping up production at two major new factories, Gigafactory Berlin and Gigafactory Texas.
Today, Tesla made an important announcement about Gigafactory Berlin, which made 2,000 cars in one week:
Production started earlier this year, and the automaker said in June that it was making more than 1,000 Model Y cars per week at its Gigafactory Berlin plant.
It means that in about 3 months, Tesla was able to double the rate of production.
This is great, but the automaker needs to do even better over the next three months if it wants to reach its goal of making 5,000 cars per week by 2022.
Even so, 2,000 Model Y cars per week coming out of Gigafactory Berlin will have a big effect on how Tesla does business around the world.
Those cars are sold in Europe, so Tesla doesn’t have to send 2,000 cars from China or the US to Europe every week to meet demand there.
This will make Tesla’s logistics and shipping times much better, and it will also help the company make more cars.
What Do You Think?
Congratulations to everyone who helped achieve this important goal. We’re talking about going from making no cars at all to making 100,000 cars a year in less than 10 months.
I can’t believe it.
But I’m not sure we can get to 5,000 cars per week by the end of the year, though it’s not impossible.
Now, the fact that Tesla announced the milestone for Gigafactory Berlin but not for Gigafactory Texas shows that Gigafactory Texas has not yet made 2,000 cars in a week.
Last month, Tesla said that Gigafactory Texas has made 10,000 Model Y cars so far, but it didn’t say how many cars are made each week.
But I’d bet that it’s not too far behind Gigafactory Berlin.
