10 Oct 2022 | The London Stock Exchange announced almost a year ago that it would be working on a new market solution to speed up the availability of financing for projects that will help a fair transition to a low-carbon economy. Today it launched its public market framework. The goal of the exchange is to help the global voluntary carbon market grow by bringing in more capital and making the market more open by disclosing information.
According to the website for the London Stock Exchange Voluntary Carbon Markets, the “Voluntary Carbon Market will allow funds and operating companies to raise money to put into nature-based and technology-led projects that help reduce the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and are expected to generate carbon credits.” It is meant to help companies that want to reach net-zero emissions by offsetting their remaining or unavoidable emissions. It also gives investors access to an asset class with a long-term supply of carbon credits.
What is the name of the Voluntary Carbon Market?
The designation can be given to qualifying funds or operating companies that are listed on the main market or AIM and want to invest in projects that will help stop climate change and give them carbon credits.
